The project concept is to develop a hub marine oil terminal on the Azerbaijan shore of the Caspian Sea in the Qaradag region, located 41 km south west of Baku, which is to have access to both the BTC pipeline and rail systems and can be scaled up to accommodate the expected increase in future transshipment volumes. The terminal will consist of port facilities, storage infrastructure, rail car loading/unloading facilities and pipeline connections to/from the AIOC Sangachal terminal and/or BTC pipeline for crude oil and gas condensate. High capacity modern facility will be designed to meet highest industry standards. Multiple berth port along with SPM (SAL) to receive all types of vessels with deadweight ranging 5,000 - 15,000 at berths to 60,000 MT at SPM (several alternative SPM/subsea pipeline/buffer tank farm locations). High performance dual use racks enabling discharging and loading RTCs further expending terminal flexibility and scope of perspective services. Powerful pumps and heating through the process allowing for handling of all types crude oils. Modern fire fighting systems, security systems and emergency response equipment will ensure high HSSE standards.
The Sangachal Qaradagh Oil Terminal will be developed in 87.31 hectare strategically located site close to both the AIOC terminal and the existing railway system. The project is planned to be completed in 3 phases, over the period 2008 to 2013.
